Iran’s Supreme Leaders Visits HUAWEI Group

April 28, 2019 – A delegation from Iran’s Expediency Discernment Council (hereinafter referred to as “the Council”) visited HUAWEI Group following their participation in the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, specifically the Sub-Forum on People-to-People Connectivity. The visit was organized by the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Foreign Affairs Office of the CPC Jinshan District Committee, and the Foreign Affairs Office of Jinshan District People’s Government.

Led by Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel, a member of the Council and former Speaker of Iran’s Parliament, the delegation conducted a comprehensive field visit to explore advanced irrigation and smart agricultural equipment. Notably, Haddad-Adel holds a unique status as the father-in-law of the second son of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, making him a close family member of the leader.

Demonstrating the Farm Above Smart Cloud Platform


The delegation observed demonstrations of HUAWEI’s cutting-edge smart agricultural technologies, including the integrated water and fertilizer irrigation system, the smart agriculture sand table, the Farm Above Smart Cloud Platform, and the Water Services Smart Cloud Platform. Discussions followed on topics such as Iran’s current irrigation challenges, cost and economic efficiency of advanced irrigation, cultivation models, and solutions for saline-alkali soil restoration.

Haddad-Adel expressed his honor at visiting HUAWEI and praised the company’s advanced and practical smart agricultural technologies. He emphasized that Iran, with two-thirds of its land being desert and many cities receiving less than 100mm of annual rainfall, has been facing severe droughts for 11 consecutive years. As such, Iran places great importance on and has a pressing need for innovative agricultural technologies.

Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel Commends HUAWEI

Haddad-Adel noted the long history of collaboration between China and Iran in irrigation technology, from ancient qanats to modern irrigation projects. He welcomed HUAWEI to share its expertise in Iran and expressed hope for deeper cooperation in water management, integrated water-fertilizer systems, and modern agricultural facilities under the Belt and Road Initiative framework.
