In early July 2025, Mr. Mingli Lyu, Chairman of Shanghai Huawei Agritech Group, as core members, along with Professor Wenge Fu, Director of the MBA Education Center of China Agricultural University and Secretary-General of the World Agricultural Technology Innovation Conference (WAFI), led a China-Saudi Arabia Agricultural Cooperation and Exchange Inspection Team for an in-depth visit and strategic alignment in Saudi Arabia.
This inspection was closely aligned with Saudi Arabia's “Vision 2030” agricultural development strategy, focusing on cutting-edge fields such as smart irrigation and controllable agriculture. The goal was to deepen China-Saudi Arabia agricultural technology cooperation and lay the foundation for the successful hosting of the 2025 WAFI Conference. The inspection yielded fruitful results, with Huawei Agritech demonstrating tremendous potential in the Saudi market, receiving widespread recognition from Saudi government and enterprise leaders, and reaching multiple cooperation agreements.
At the start of the inspection, Huawei Agritech immediately accompanied the delegation into the core circles of Saudi policy and finance. The delegation held strategic discussions with the CEO of the Saudi Financial Coordination Center, the Head of the Taif Ministry of Environment, Water Resources, and Agriculture, and the President of the Rose and Aromatic Association, offering precise interpretations of the new agricultural policies and investment opportunities under Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030.

In in-depth discussions with the Saudi Ministry of Investment (MISA), Huawei Agritech gained a detailed understanding of Saudi Arabia's investment policy advantages in the agricultural sector and the project implementation support system. MISA officials gave high praise and expectations to Huawei's self-developed "Turnkey Smart Irrigation System" and the pioneering ACA Controllable Agriculture Model, providing strong policy support channels for Huawei Agritech’s business expansion in Saudi Arabia.
At the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) (equivalent to China’s Chinese Academy of Sciences), the Huawei Agritech team engaged in in-depth discussions with Saudi research experts on key technologies such as smart irrigation for crops like coffee and dates, and precision water use in deserts. Huawei's long-term technological accumulation in the field of smart irrigation and its mature "Irrigation Brand Machines" product system received high recognition from the KACST team. Both parties have initially planned to jointly research and develop solutions for optimizing irrigation for drought-resistant crops.
Huawei Agritech has reached a cooperation intention with THE GARAGE, the world’s second-largest incubator, which is endorsed by Bill Gates. The plan is to incorporate Huawei’s smart irrigation technology and controllable agriculture model, which are suited for the Middle Eastern desert climate, into the incubator’s acceleration system. By leveraging THE GARAGE's global network resources, Huawei Agritech aims to accelerate the commercialization of its technologies and bring new agricultural hope to Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.
In discussions with ARASCO Group, a leading agricultural and food giant in Saudi Arabia, both parties focused on the "implementation of smart irrigation systems and controllable agriculture models". They explored a closed-loop collaboration that spans from equipment supply to full-process technical services, aiming to promote the large-scale application of Huawei's technologies in the cultivation of Saudi specialty crops such as dates and grains. During an on-site visit to ARASCO’s date plantation base, Huawei Agritech proposed a "crop-specific" customized solution tailored to local water-saving needs, which resonated strongly with the group.

Besides, Huawei Agritech also delegation visited ARASCO Group's date and fig bases, as well as Wemart Farm, to conduct on-site research into the pain points of crop irrigation in desert environments. They planned pathways for smart irrigation and agricultural supply chain collaboration and optimization, while learning from the "farm-to-table" closed-loop experience.
Professor Wenge Fu, the Secretary-General of the WAFI Conference, representing the inspection delegation, had in-depth discussions with the Saudi Ministry of Environment, Water Resources, and Agriculture (MEWA) Innovation Center, reaching a framework consensus on deepening agricultural and food innovation cooperation between the two countries through the WAFI platform. Huawei actively responded and will leverage its technological advantages to contribute the "China Huawei Solution" to Saudi Arabia’s agricultural modernization, food security, and green transformation.
At the "2025 Beijing-Saudi Investment Promotion Conference", Professor Wenge Fu, representing WAFI, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with WIN GROUP, a Saudi-Chinese investment group. Huawei Agritech and other delegation members had in-depth discussions with Saeed A. Jazzar, the CEO of WIN GROUP, regarding the Saudi market and subsequent cooperation.
Through in-depth discussions with the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), Saudi Agricultural and Livestock Investment Company (SALIC), and L-Alkair, a publicly listed Saudi agricultural supply chain company, Huawei Agritech's smart irrigation systems and controllable agriculture models have found solid capital support and market channels in Saudi Arabia. Given SALIC's extensive agricultural portfolio, Huawei Agritech specifically highlighted its unique, globally exclusive "complete and easy-to-use" smart irrigation system, showcasing the new advantages of Chinese agricultural equipment manufacturing in reducing costs and increasing efficiency across the board.

During this trip to Saudi Arabia, Huawei Agritech clearly saw the strong need for smart irrigation systems and controllable farming methods as the country pushes forward with modernizing its agriculture. The team also built solid relationships with key players from the Saudi government, research institutions, industry, and investment sectors. Together, they reached three main agreements: align on policies, work together on technology, and win in the market. Every high-level meeting, lab visit, and field inspection helped Huawei better prepare to grow its presence in Saudi Arabia and support the country’s Vision 2030. This visit also laid a strong foundation for the 2025 WAFI Conference.
