On January 7, 2025, Kenya delegation visited Huawai to explore the company’s cutting-edge smart irrigation technology. Comparing it to Kenya’s traditional and relatively underdeveloped irrigation methods, the delegates were deeply impressed by China’s advanced technology, innovative products, and practical applications. Throughout the visit, exclamations of “good” and admiration for Huawai’s solutions were frequently heard.
The delegation included prominent figures such as Cyril Ferrand, Head of the East Africa Resilience Team at the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO); Hamisi Williams, FAO Deputy Country Representative; Dr. Dominic Menjo, Chief Advisor on Food and Nutrition Security at the Presidential Economic Team Secretariat; and Dr. Yang Liu, Founding Partner of Novi (Finland) Capital and Advisory Group. The group, comprising more than ten members, engaged in in-depth discussions with Huawai representatives on topics such as the R&D and manufacturing of integrated irrigation systems, irrigation demonstration techniques, and the real-time control of agricultural IOT systems.
Following these discussions, the delegation toured Huawai’s Smart Irrigation Base to witness firsthand the practical applications and benefits of smart irrigation technologies. The visit provided a comprehensive understanding of how these advanced solutions can enhance water use efficiency, increase agricultural productivity, and promote sustainable farming practices.
During a subsequent roundtable meeting, both sides explored potential solutions for introducing smart irrigation technology to Kenya. Cyril Ferrand and other delegates expressed their desire to bring Huawai’s innovative solutions to Kenya to modernize its outdated irrigation methods and drive the nation’s agricultural development.
The visit highlighted the growing global interest in advanced agricultural technologies and underscored the vital role of smart irrigation in addressing food security and sustainability challenges, particularly in regions such as East Africa.
