The coffee plant, known scientifically as Coffea arabica L., is made from coffee beans combined with a variety of cooking utensils. Coffee plants are extremely picky about the environment in which they grow. In order to obtain superior coffee beans, it is necessary to strictly control the composition of the soil, rainfall and irrigation, the time of sunlight and the ambient temperature when planting the coffee tree. Coffee has a well-developed root system and grows particularly well in rich, loose forest soils. Rich sandy loam or red loam soil is suitable for coffee cultivation.

Coffee tree is a shallow root system crop, a short taproot are all developed fibrous roots, loose fertile, well-drained loam is particularly suitable for coffee tree growth.

For every 500g of coffee beans produced, coffee plants consume 0.9m³ of water.

Coffee plants prefer moisture environment and afraid of sun.

The average annual rainfall in the planting area should be above 1250mm, and it should be evenly distributed.

Coffee trees in the flowering and young fruit development period of the water demand is very large, soil moisture can promote the better development of coffee trees.

It is a perennial evergreen shrub or small tree of Rubiaceae, which requires higher soil fertility and likes weakly acidic soil with a pH value of 5.5-6.5.

Coffee plants prefer mild but not hot temperatures during the day, and less than two hours of direct sunlight.

The temperature can not be too low, too hot will make the coffee berries develop too fast, can not produce small but strong hard and high-quality coffee beans; If it gets cold enough to frost, the coffee plants will freeze to death.

Coffee trees are more planted on the hillside, also because the slope has the advantage of drainage.

Plant 300 to 400 plants per acre.

80% of coffee roots are concentrated on the surface at 0~30cm depth. Micro-sprinkler irrigation and drip irrigation are conducive to nutrient absorption by the roots, and the integrated water and fertilizer can effectively save 30~50% fertilizer.

Integration of water and fertilizer

Coffee plants have shallow roots, concentrated in layers of 0-30 cm, and therefore have a very low drought tolerance compared to many other perennial plants.

Irrigation demand for coffee is high; About 20 cubic meters per acre per season. The key stages of coffee irrigation are: flowering stage - berry expansion stage - bean filling stage.

Adequate irrigation with water and fertilizer helps the coffee plant to blossom intensively.

Not early irrigation when the bud is not fully differentiated will lead to the flower flowering is not concentrated, the fruit ripening and dispersing, increasing costs and wasting water resources.

Coffee water shortage will lead to late maturing coffee, leaf litter, dry branches, flower atrophy, poor flowering, low yield, poor quality, but also affect the normal growth and development of coffee trees.

Coffee plantations are hilly and mountainous, and the existence of high drop leads to uneven irrigation between the mountain and the mountain, resulting in inconsistent coffee growth and affecting the yield and fruit quality.

Location: Jiangxi Province Fuzhou Hongxing Reclamation Farm

Time: 2018

Project Brief: Since its inception, the base has invested 160 million yuan, built 3,000 acres of high-standard farmland, introduced kiwifruit tissue culture and rapid breeding factories under the Chinese Academy of Sciences into the base, and built a full traceability system. Automatic integrated water and fertilizer system (hanging drip irrigation and sprinkler irrigation) was built by Agrist.
